BRIEF LOG OF THE 4TH PORT HOPE ROVER CREW
Passing through the Streets of Port Hope it would be impossible not to notice the bright red trash disposal bins. They also bear the distinctive emblem of Scouting in bright yellow, trimmed in green, with the wording 4th Port Hope Rover Crew.
The 4th Port Hope Rover Crew is sponsored by the Saint John's Anglican Church, and the Rover Crew wear the Scottish Kilt, the Black Watch Tartan. They are the visible symbols of the Rovers motto, the highest distinction is service to others. The crew was formed in 1953 under the able leadership of Skipper Les Brown. The crew has its own den on John St. This crew has attended many Camps and Jamborees.
On the retirement of Les Brown the leadership was taken over by Skipper Gus Plousos who was Les Brown's assistant. He has attended many Scouting Conferences, and is also Gilwell trained, as was the former Skipper. The crew has performed many services to its community, planting trees at Forestry Camps and also leading in others. Many of the Rovers are leaders in other groups of the Scouting field.

Three of the Rovers attended the Jamboree in England.
The Rover crew operates a Hobby Show in the Spring when all in the Scouting field show their respective Hobbies. It's very successful and gets bigger every year. The crew also helped to Police the Fireman's Christmas Parade to keep order among the children and prevent accidents. The crew is trained in first aid work and many other fields. A member of the Rover crew coached a Pee Wee Hockey team every winter and was the winner last year.
The crew has a yearly Christmas Party for underprivileged children at its den, with Santa Claus giving gifts to these children. This is also a yearly project. The crew tours many industries in Ontario, and has many prominent guest speakers at its den.
Constable Bob O'Brien is its Honorary Member. He teaches the boys the art of self-defence and many phases of Police work and law and respect of the law. He is highly regarded by the crew.
Much of the work by this crew would take pages and pages to tell. This is but a brief log.
